As your neighborhood grocer, Key Food Stores Co-Operative, Inc. (“Key Food”) is committed to providing a high-quality supermarket experience to our customers, and we take the security of payment card data very seriously. All our stores utilize EMV chip-enabled payment terminals for processing payment cards.
We want to make customers aware of an ongoing investigation into a security incident involving some Co-Op Members’ payment processing systems, as well as to provide information on the measures we have taken in response and steps customers may consider taking.
Key Food was recently informed by law enforcement that data from payment cards that may have been used at certain Co-Op Member stores were offered for sale on a website. We immediately launched an investigation and leading cybersecurity firms were engaged to assist. We also notified the payment card networks about the security incident and continue to work with law enforcement to support their investigation.
Because the investigation is in its earliest stages, we do not have additional details to provide at this time. We anticipate providing notification to customers as we get further clarity about the specific timeframes and stores that may have been involved.
Consistent with good practices, customers should closely monitor their payment card statements for any unauthorized activity. Any customer who finds an unauthorized transaction should immediately notify their card issuer because payment card rules generally provide that cardholders are not responsible for unauthorized charges reported in a timely manner.
